DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware stoarge jar, three-gallon capacity; cylindrical shape, bulging outward slightly at shoulder; two arch-shaped applied moulded handles; concave, flared neck, delineated by incised lines; wide, flat, rim overhangs neck; three incised lines at waist ; interior of vessel is coated with Albany-slip; extensive cobalt decoration, a mixture of freehand and stencilled designs; two stencilled lines of repeating stars, and maker information; alternating hand-brushed wavy and straight bands; large cursive numeral at bottom, flanked by three pairs of wavy lines; cobalt accents at base of handles.Dimensions13.25 x 9.25 x 8.5 in. Historical NotesAdolph Eberhart and J.G. Williams bought Samuel R. Dilliner's Ford Street pottery in 1865. Eberhart owned a number of the clay banks that supplied clay to the area's potteries; the firm was sold to Alexander Conrad in 1870. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
