DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware storage jar, four gallon capacity; robust semi-ovoid shape, bulges outward above the waist, with incised concentric lines; two attached semi-circular handles near top; heavy rim overhangs neck; dark gray clay body has fired to a beige-gray color, under a very heavy and thick orange peel textured salt glaze; large free-hand tulip or fuschia flower design, brushed in cobalt slip, above an underlined cursive numeral; brown albany slip interior.Dimensions14 x 9.75 in. Historical NotesBold decoration and heavyweight construction suggest early production date; possibly a Beaver County product.
