DescriptionLarge stoneware storage jar, five-gallon capacity; light gray color, with very intense dark cobalt-blue decoration; tall, wide cylinder shape, entire upper rim has been broken away; two arch-shaped moulded handles; combination of well-executed free-hand and stencilled decoration covers the entire facing side of the vessel; wavy lines and a delicate multi-leafed vine at top; stencilled label has retailer information; near base, additional wavy lines, dashes, and a large stencilled numeral.Dimensions14.5 x 10.25 x 9.5 in. Historical NotesProbably made by a Southwestern Pennsylvania pottery, this beautifully decorated jar bears the label of downtown Pittsburgh merchant Edward Heazelton. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
