DescriptionShort, wide storage jar, possibly a small butter churn, stoneware with a very heavy salt glaze, firing to a dark gray-green color; brushed cobalt decoration of lines and sweeping shapes; Albany-slip interior; two very robust arch-shaped pulled handles at top of vessel; tall, straight rim flange with interior shelf to fit a recessed lid or churn top; stamped at shoulder with number and maker's mark.Dimensions10.75 x 8 in. (27.3 x 20.3 cm)
MarksStamped at shoulder with "2" and "McKEN(Z)(reversed)IE + JACKSON / BEAVER".

Historical NotesHamilton McKenzie and Thomas Jackson made stoneware in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, from the 1860s through the 1870s. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
