DescriptionLarge salt-glazed stoneware jar, light grey to tan color, early appearance: ovoid body shape, narrowing at base, with outward bulge at waist; wide, overhanging upper rim; free-hand brushed colbalt-slip decoration features a cursive numeral underlined, and flanked by brushed flourishes and dots; light-brown Albany slip coating on interior of the vessel.Dimensions10 in. Historical NotesAppears to be of relatively early manufacture; most of this jar has fired to a light tan color; this may be a reconstructed excavated vessel. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
