DescriptionRectangular multi-media collage. The base is tan paper with uneven edges. The image is abstract and made up of acrylic and watercolor paints with tissue paper. The pigments include: blue, dark blue, light blue, yellow, white, red, brown, and black. A piece of paper painted blue is on the proper left edge in the upper half of the object, while a brown/black reverse "c" shape is present in the lower two-thirds of the object. A light blue section of watercolor paint in on the proper right edge on the lower half of the object. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
