DescriptionRectangular abstract collage with uneven edges. The base is tan cardstock. The collage is made up of layers of tissue paper and watercolor paints. The tissue paper has a wash of charcoal gray, with a vertical line of white paint in the proper right upper corner, and a section of black in the proper left upper corner. There is are two parallel horizontal black lines which arch slightly in the lower third of the composition. A large section of black is on the lower third of the lower proper right edge. The lower edge has light gray paint in the lower proper right corner, with red-brown paint to its proper left.Dimensions3.9764 x 2.2047 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
