DescriptionRectangular multi-media collage. The base is paper, with layers of tissue paper, paper, and acrylic paint. Pigments include: blue, light blue, orange, green, red, and black. A piece of paper painted light blue is at the lower proper left corner of the object, with a piece of masking tape adhered near the center of the proper left edge. The lower proper right corner has a piece of paper painted black, while the base paint layer of the proper right half of the object is green acrylic paint. A piece of paper painted blue in on the lower edge, on the proper left half of the object. Orange acrylic paint is throughout the object (looks like a dry brush application). The center of the object is three layers of off-white tissue paper adhered to the painted layers (and each other).Dimensions7.0866 x 8.7008 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
