DescriptionRectangular abstract collage with uneven edges. The base is tan cardstock, gray cardstock, and red construction paper (proper left upper quadrant). The collage is made up of the aforementioned papers, with tissue paper and watercolor paints overtop in an abstract design. A green section of paper shows through the tissue paper on the proper left edge of the object, with the red construction paper showing through the tissue paper to the proper right of the green section, along the upper edge. Organic lines of black watercolor paint extend from the upper proper right corner to the upper proper left corner and proper left edge. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
