DescriptionTwo-handled stoneware jar or vase, ovoid form, wide mouth, with slightly outward-flaring rim; two applied loop handles; salt glazing has fired to a light gray color; hand-brushed flower decoration on two sides of the vessel, showing a single blossom on a long, wavy, stem, with two large leaf sprays; the handle attachments are also outlined in cobalt blue.Dimensions7 x 8 in. (17.8 x 20.3 cm)Historical NotesEarly appearance: decoration seems reminescent of Johnstown, Pennsylvania area or Beaver County, Pennsylvania work. This pot is unusual, in that it is decorated on two sides, which was ordinarily not done with regional stoneware; this piece may have been intended to be used as a flower vase.
