DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware storage jar, two-gallon capacity, light-gray body with heavy cobalt blue decoration; reddish-brown Albany-glazed interior; this jar has an early appearance: a squat, ovoid-shaped body, with prominent overhanging rim; stamped number near upper rim; large freehand brushwork flower decoration with stem and leaves.Dimensions10 x 9.5 x 9.25 in. Historical NotesThis early-appearing jar, though unmarked, resembles Beaver County production; a number of Greene County stoneware potters, most notably the Hamilton brothers, learned the trade in Beaver County. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
