DescriptionRectangular piece of white cardstock with an abstract composition on one side and a pencil sketch on the other.
Front composition consists of a square drawn in pencil, filled with geometric and abstract shapes. Some of the shapes have been filled in with black ink, while others have been colored with various shadings and combinations of oil pastels.
Reverse has pencil sketch of figures at a carnival. Background shows a tent. Foreground numerous figures in a variety of poses.Dimensions5 x 6.75 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
