DescriptionPainting on rectangular piece of white sketchbook paper. Painting has pencil frame with a series of pencil-drawn geometric shapes within frame. Some areas of the pencil lines have been traced with oil pastel or colored in. The other remaining areas have been painted in with black, yellow, or grey blue paint and then colored over with red, tan, blue, green, or purple oil pastel. Reverse has eight black marker lines along right side.Dimensions8.75 x 5.75 in. (22.2 x 14.6 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
