DescriptionSmall rectangular piece of white paper covered with ink drawings on the front and a pencil sketch on the back. Front has red, green, orange, and blue oil pastel has been used to draw vertical and horizontal lines in the middle and along the edges of the paper. There appear to be abstract faces drawn in ink over the entire page. The page is covered in blue paint over all the ink and oil pastels. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
