DescriptionPaiting on white rectangular piece of paper. There is a pencil sketch of a frame filled with abstract shapes which are filled with various colors of paint. Along the bottom and right edge of the pencil frame, there is brown paint with brown oil pastel accents. The top and left edge of the pencil frame is green and black with yellow and green oil pastel accents. The center of the frame is filled with tan, red, and yellow splotches of paint with yellow oil pastel accents. The back of the paper has a rectangular pencil sketch.Dimensions7.187 x 6.312 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
