DescriptionCollage on a rectangular piece of cardstock with uneven top and proper right edges. Gray base cardstock, with a rectangular (with uneven edges) tan piece of paper roughly centered. An abstract pattern of paper cut into geometric (polygonal) shapes is applied to the tan paper. The hues of the paper pieces include: blue, orange, red, purple, green (olive drab), and gray (faded black?). A large blue piece of paper is adhered in the upper proper right/top section of the pattern, with a large orange piece to the proper left, with text above. A purple piece of paper is near the center of the pattern, and another blue piece makes up the proper left bottom corner of the pattern. Splotches of discoloration (pigment/adhesive?) are present on the proper right side of the piece and around the edges of the tan paper.Dimensions9.5275 x 10.1181 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
