DescriptionCollage consisting of a quadrilateral piece of paper that appears to be a cut-out from a magazine applied to a rectangular piece of tan cardstock. The applied paper contains a geometric pattern made up of blocks of color that are largely rectangular and black and neutral (white?) lines. A single block of blue is on the upper proper right edge of the image, while a small block of orange makes up the upper edge and a large block of orange makes up the bottom half of the image. A yellow-orange block edged in black dominates the center of the upper half of the image, with partial blocks flanking each side of the orange block on the lower half of the image. The edges of the image are uneven and the bottom proper left corner of the image is slightly torn. The face of the cardstock has markings along the proper right side.Dimensions8.0708 x 5.315 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
