DescriptionRectangular abstract collage with uneven edges. The base is tan cardstock. The proper right lower corner is a section of purple paper adhered over a piece of yellow paper (which runs to the upper edge) and a piece of orange paper. The proper left upper corner has a piece of orange paper under a diagonal magazine clipping (orange and borwn), with runs from the proper left edge to the lower edge of the object. The proper left half of the piece, the last layer before the base, is a magazine clipping (yellow with black text). The reverse has a piece of light brown paper adhered to the tan base. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
