DescriptionPainting on a white rectangular piece of sketchbook paper. The image has pencil outlines that have been filled in with brown, blue, red, yellow, grey, and black paint. The borders of the image are tan, blue, and grey, while the figues in the center are black with smaller brown accents. Within some of these outlines, they have been colored with black, orange, and blue oil pastels before they were painted over. In the center of the image, there are two pieces of red and black tissue paper glued over the paint.Dimensions4.75 x 7.75 in. (12.1 x 19.7 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
