DescriptionPainting on rectangular piece of white paper. Paper is covered in oil pastel and pencil lines then covered with black watercolor. The oil pastel lines trace over the pencil lines. The oil pastel lines are pink and green, with a small pair of green and orange lines near the left edge. The oil pastels are then covered in black paint, with a small side of orange along the left side.Dimensions4 x 6 in. (10.2 x 15.2 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
