DescriptionDrawing on rectangular piece of white sketchbook paper. There is a light drawing of a grid system in pencil across the entire page. Over the grid system, there is a series of oil pastel shadings. Across the top edge, there are lime green oil pastel shadings. Near the right corner, there is a mixture of purple, red, lime green, dark green and brown moving in a downward diagonal direction. Over most of the rest of the page, there is a mixture of blue, dark green, and grey oil pastel. Along the right side curved into the center of the image, there is another dotted mixture of red, lime green, purple, dark green, and brown.Dimensions8.75 x 5.75 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
