DescriptionCollage on small white rectangular piece of paper. Paper has a pencil sketch of what appears to be an abstract human figure. Figure is colored in with blue, red, green, and orange oil pastels and painted over with black paint. In the center of the figure, there is a small piece of black and a small piece of blue tissue paper. Surrounding the figure are light brown paint splatters with yellow and pink oil pastel. Near the lower right corner, there is a brown piece of tissue paper.Dimensions4.812 x 4.25 in. (12.2 x 10.8 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
