DescriptionMedium-size, approximately one-and-a-half gallon, storage jar or crock: salt-glazed stoneware, hand-thrown, reddish-brown body clay has fired to a light-gray color, with cobalt-slip stencilling with maker information, with small stencilled floral spray at center; ovoid-shape body, narrower at the foot, wide, flat rim at mouth, overhangs at top; brown Albany-slip coated interior.Dimensions9.125 x 8.625 in. (23.2 x 21.9 cm)
MarksCobalt-slip stencilling which reads: "L.B. DILLINER & CO / NEW GENEVA".
Historical NotesLeander B. Dilliner operated a pottery in New Geneva, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, beginning in 1874. In 1880, he sold the works to John & Thomas Eberhart, and moved to Fairmont, West Virginia. Leander was a son of Samuel R. Dilliner, who potted in New Geneva, c.1854 - c.1861.
