DescriptionRectangular abstract collage with uneven edges. The base is tan cardstock, which frames the collage in the center of the object. The collage is rectangular in shape and is made up of layers of magazine cliipings with acrylic paint overtop. The proper left upper corner is dark red, with an abstract, vertical section of brown paper painted pink overtop. The proper left lower corner is red with black paint. The proper right lower corner is dark green, with a section of dark red paint below it, running the proper right half of the lower edge. There is a section of orange and green paint in the proper right upper quadrant, with a section of light green to its proper right.Dimensions4.1732 x 5.0394 in. (10.6 x 12.8 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
