DescriptionSummer quilt. Twenty blocks appliqued in the Dresden Plate pattern. Rounded cross shapes have been appliqued over the intersections of the squares in between the plates. It is handquilted at five to seven stitches per inch in doubled thread. The machine-stitched edges are crenallated and bound in a red and green print fabric. No filling between the top and the backing.Dimensions68 x 75 in. (172.7 x 190.5 cm)
Historical NotesMade by Ida B. Wise who lived in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. This is an example of a summer quilt since it has no filling between the top and the backing. It has twenty blocks appliqued in the Dresden Plate pattern which was popular from the early to mid- twentieth century. This pattern allowed quilters to use up small amounts of a wide variety of fabrics
