DescriptionGrandmother's Flower Garden quilt with a white background and multi-colored hexagonal flowers. Each flower has a yellow center surrounded by six hexagons of a solid color and an outer ring of hexagons of a matching patterned fabric. The zig-zag edge has a row of pink hexagons bound with green twill tape. The quilt is hand-quilted at six to eight stitches per inch.Dimensions94 x 84 in. (238.8 x 213.4 cm)Historical NotesMade by Mayme Burrello Affinito (b. 1902) with some help from her two daughters, Anna Marie (b.1928) & Lillian (b.1926 d.1982). They purchased bags of fabric clippings for the quilt at Landelfield's Dry Goods Store, Monongahela, PA. at a cost of a dollar a bag. Every night at 7:00 pm the sisters would help stitch a few rows. Their mother would inspect their work. Made in the family home 411 2nd St. Monongahela, PA, this was Mayme's first quilt, and, according to Anna Marie, Mayme was very proud of it but she never used the quilt.
