DescriptionRectangular multi-media collage. The base is made of different pieces of cardstock and construction paper. The pieces are adhered to a connecting piece of tissue paper, which is painted with acrylic paint (pink, purple, black, and brown) and contains pastels (pink, orange, yellow, blue, green, and white). The proper right edge of the object is a mottled abstract pattern of pink, brown, and black, with white, yellow, and green pastels. The center third of the object is covered with blue, green, and yellow pastels in a vertical pattern. The proper left edge of the object shows the purple base cardstock through the tissue paper, with a vertical pattern of orange, yellow, pink, and green pastels. The reverse is constructed from purple cardstock (proper right), colored construction paper (light tan, brown, blue, and pink) (center), and painted cardstock (pink and black) (proper left).Dimensions4.6063 x 7.1653 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
