DescriptionPainting on rectangular piece of white paper. Paper is covered with splotches of orange, grey, white, and black paint. Glued in the center of the paper, there is a scrap of paper covered with orange, grey, and red paint with small black painted lines. There is also a piece of white tissue paper glued to the lower right corner; a piece of pink, brown, red, and yellow paper glued along the bottom center; a small black scrap of paper glued near the lower right corner; a small white scrap of paper glued to the upper right corner; and a piece of masking tape in the upper center.Dimensions6.602 x 8.812 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
