DescriptionCollage on rectangular piece of paper cut from a magazine. The front of the page is covered with pieces of white tissue paper over the original magazine image. There are smaller scraps of paper glued on the white tissue paper from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. These scraps of paper are orange, punk, brown, and orange. Near the upper left and lower right corners, there are two larger scraps of white paper. The back of the page features an advertisement from 1956 for Hygrade meat; the advertisement has burgers and sausages cooking on a grill outside with text below it.Dimensions6.687 x 9.125 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
