DescriptionCollage on large piece of white paper created with scraps of newspaper, magazine clippings, tissue paper, paint, and adhesive. There is a smaller collage on a poster from an advertisement stuck to the front of the larger piece of paper. The larger collage has pieces of yellow, pink, white, and red tissue and magazine paper glued overall; there is shading from a blue ink pen on white areas of tissue paper. The smaller collage is on a red advertisement, covered with white, pink, and yellow tissue paper. There are splotches of red, white, orange, and yellow paint along the edges. In the center of the page there is a piece of white string that has been glued near the left edge spreading to the center of the page. The string has been painted with red and blue paint. Along the bottom edge of the page, making a right angle near the right edge, is a piece of blue ribbon that has been partially painted with yellow and pink paint.Dimensions19 x 23.812 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
