DescriptionCollage on white rectangular piece of cardboard. Cardboard was splattered with blue paint, then covered with scraps of paper. The scraps are predominantly grey, white, and black tissue. There are also several pink, red, and white images cut out from a magazine glued to the center and right side of the collage. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
