DescriptionTwo-sided collage on small rectangular piece of paper with overlayed images from newspapers and advertisements. Paper has pieces of paper glued to both the front and the back. One side has large piece of brown construction paper glued to the lower right corner. Near the top edge, there is a abstract tan image cut from a magazine, with a piece of gold paper glued to the front. Other side has small red scrap of paper with blue, white, green, and yellow oil pastel scribbles glued to the lower right corner.Dimensions3 x 4.312 in. (7.6 x 11 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
