DescriptionRectangular collage.Front has large black and grey splotches of paint with splatters of white and the colors from reverse side show through the front tissue. On the reverse, five pieces of different types of paper and cardstock are glued together using front piece of paper as support. Top two colors are two different shades of red, below that clockwise is an orange sheet of construction paper, below that is a tan piece of cardstock with two pieces of masking tape, and finally a large piece of white construction paper.Dimensions4 x 3.75 in. (10.2 x 9.5 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
