DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware whiskey jug; reddish-color fireclay body has fired to a deep olive-brown; tall, cylindrical shape, tapers to a rounded shoulder, with a short, straight neck or spout, having a deep incised ring; large applied pulled handle at shoulder; jug is decorated with a combination of cobalt-slip stencilling and free-hand brushwork; near the base is a stencilled scroll, surrounded by maker information; above this is a cursive numeral, flanked by sprigs of leaves, and bordered by wavy lines and dashes.Dimensions16.75 x 9.5 x 8.5 in. Historical NotesThomas Reppert and William Williams bought the old James Hamilton pottery in Greensboro, Pennsylvania in 1880; the firm closed in 1895. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
