DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware sorage jar, four-gallon capacity; light-gray body, with bold deep cobalt-blue decoration; tall, cylinder shape, bulges slightly at shoulder, with two molded(?) attached handles; pronounced lip at top, with wide, flat, rim; brush-decorated on two sides: vine and four-petalled trumpet flower over numeral on one side, opposite side has vine/flower only; brushed lines at neck and attachment points of handles.Dimensions14.5 x 9.5 x 8.75 in. Historical NotesUnusual in that both sides of the vessel are decorated, this jar has an early appearance, as evidenced by the light color and generous cobalt hand-brushed decoration. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
