DescriptionLarge and heavy ten-gallon storage jar: tall, cylindrical shape, bulges outward slightly; well-defined neck, and rolled upper rim; two large arch-shaped handles at shoulder; light-grey color, interior coated with brown glaze; base is largely unglazed, revealing a light-orange color body clay; decorated top-to-bottom with brushed bands and wavy lines; large numeral near base; two identical stencilled labels have been applied, one above the other, featuring tulip flowers, and maker information.Dimensions20.75 x 12 in. Historical NotesRobert T. Williams bought the New Geneva Pottery Works in 1882, and ran a prosperous business in the late period of stoneware production in the area. Williams disappeared, and was presumably murdered, on a selling trip to Pittsburgh in 1895. Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
