DescriptionLadies of the GAR badge with bronze medal with Amerian flag ribbon. The topmost piece of the medal has three letters within a longer bar, with stylized flourishes at the top, half-medallions on the sides, and a swag at the bottom. There is a metal eye at the bottom of the swag, where something may have hung. The ribbon is made to look like an American flag hanging vertically with the stars on the left-hand side. The third section of the medal is comprised an upside-down star with the seal of the Grand Army of the Republic at the center (two figures shaking hands, with Native figure in the background, and woman and child under hands). The outside ring of the seal has the organization name and year. The points of the star are connected with olive branches, forming a circular shape. The reverse side of the medal is plain, except for the pin. The reverse side of the ribbon shows only red and white stripes.Dimensions1.5 x 2.5 in. (3.8 x 6.4 cm)
InscriptionsThe topmost piece of the badge has the letters "F.C.L."

On the bottom section, the outside ring of the seal states "LADIES OF THE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC / 1886".
Historical NotesPart of a collection relating to the Pennsylvania Grand Army of the Republic and John Remley who served in the Civil War and was active in the leadership of the GAR. The collection documents the military career of a Civil War soldier from the Western Pennsylvania region.
