DescriptionGAR badge with embossed brass medal and red ribbon. Obverse: Top portion of medal, attached to ribbon, is centered around a seal depicting two soldiers, flanked by flags on either side, shaking hands over a seated woman and standing child, with a third figure standing in the center of the background; surrounding the seal is text with organization and military service information. Above the seal is location name written across an arched banner. A bar extending on either side of the seal dates the medal. Below the ribbon is another bar with scrollwork at both top and bottom, with text written within. A round medallion depicting a three-quarter profile portrait of a mustached man wearing a suit and bowtie, and name around the upper half of the medallion. Reverse: The top portion of the medal is stamped with maker's information, located in the upper arched portion. Below the stamp is the pin and hook. The back of the medallion is ringed with two crossed, leaved branches, which surround text with event information.Dimensions1.75 x 3.75 in. (4.4 x 9.5 cm)
InscriptionsObverse:
Surrounding the seal are the words "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC" / "1861 - VETERAN - 1866".

Above the seal, the word "HARRISBURG, PA." is written across an arched banner.

A bar extending on either side of the seal dates the medal "JUNE 1916".

Below the ribbon is another bar with scrollwork at both top and bottom, with "REPRESENTATIVE" written within.

A round medallion has text "COMMANDER C.F. GRAMLICH" written around the upper half of the medallion.

Reverse:
The back of the medallion has text "50TH / ANNVAL [sic] / ENCAMPMENT / DEPT. OF PENNA. / G. A. R. / HARRISVRG [sic] / JVNE [sic] 1916".
MarksReverse:
The top portion of the medal is stamped with maker's information, located in the upper arched portion "J.K.DAVISON / PHILA."
Historical NotesPart of a collection relating to the Pennsylvania Grand Army of the Republic and John Remley who served in the Civil War and was active in the leadership of the GAR. The collection documents the military career of a Civil War soldier from the Western Pennsylvania region.
