DescriptionSalt-glazed stoneware butter churn, four-gallon capacity; light grey color, with pale cobalt decoration; tall, cylindrical shape, with slight outward bulge; arch-shaped pulled handles at each side; straight-sided tall rim with two embossed decorative ribs; internal shelf to fit a lid/dasher assembly; reddish-brown Albany-slip coated interior; maker information stencilled on face with cornucopia and leaf motifs, and large stencilled number at base; free-hand brushed decoration at neck and base of handles.Dimensions16.25 x 9 x 8.75 in. Historical NotesThis short lived (1876-1878) firm was founded by James Eneix, with Alpheus Frankenberry, in Springhill Township, just outside of New Geneva, Pennsylvania. In 1879, Eneix joined with William Evans in another brief partnership; from 1874 until 1876, James Eneix was self-employed; he died in 1898 Part of a collection of stoneware from local manufacturers in the Western Pennsylvania region.
