DescriptionPainting on rectangular piece of white sketchbook paper. Paper has a pencil frame drawn on front with a series of smaller boxes inside. Each box is filled with a different color of watercolor. Along the left edge and in the upper left corner, it is purple. Across the top edge and in the lower and upper right corners, it is blue. On the interior of the frame, the colors are predominantly black, red, and orange, with some smaller blue and purple accents.Dimensions8.687 x 5.75 in. (22.1 x 14.6 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
