DescriptionPainting on rectangular piece of light green construction paper. Paper is covered with ink lines and paint. The black ink lines form a series of boxes and geometric shapes over most of the construction paper. Within the black ink lines, there are a series of painted splotches. The paint colors range from a light pink and purple, to a light green, blue, magenta, and yellow. The uppermost paint towards the left corner is yellow with some grey blue paint over. Across the top from that is a light gren and light purple mixture which spreads down the right side of the image. Towards the left center, there is a blue, green, and light purple smear. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
