DescriptionRectangular collage on mulitcolored construction paper base. White, pink, and maroon pieces of construction paper provide the base, while bright blue, cream, and orange construction paper are adhered to the base. Transparent tissue paper covers the entire surface, and brown watercolors and saturated ink blots give a burnt appearance to the the center right of the piece. Black ink lines form part of a drawing that moves from the center towards the proper right. White acrylic paint splatters on the center right and bottom right.Dimensions7.375 x 4.25 in. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
