DescriptionNeedlepoint sampler embroidered on linen, multicolored thread. Historical NotesSampler made by Jane Glenn in 1827. Glenn was born in 1812 on the family homestead on Chartiers Creek in what is now Glenndale in Carnegie. Her parents came to the region from Cumberland County and her father William Glenn fought in the war of 1812. Her grandfather James Glen fought in the Revolutionary War and resided in Lancaster County. The family was very involved in Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Jane married Robert Bigham on October 24, 1832. For a period of their marriage they operated a flour mill in Scott Township but they sold the mill in 1854 and returned to Carnegie. They had one son, William Glenn Bigham.
