Historical NotesNamed after legendary actress Shirley Temple, Shirley Mae Jones was born on March 31, 1934, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Her father operated the Jones Brewing Company in nearby Smithton, where she later moved. As a teenager, she was crowed "Miss Pittsburgh 1952." Her musical talents lead her to parts in many stage shows; and in 1955, her first movie musical, "Oklahoma!," was released. Most Americans, however, are more familiar with her television role as "Shirley Partridge" in "The Partridge Family," which was on television from 1970-1974. The set was purchased in the 1950s by Judy Stump from Irwin, Pennsylvania, who played with them as a young girl.
