DescriptionCollage on rectangular piece of white paper. Glued to the center of the paper is a magazine clipping covered in tissue paper and red, black, and some pink paint. There are also smaller pieces of tissue paper glued over the painted work. Creating a border around the piece, there are two strips of paper glued to the paper and to the page with the collage on it.Dimensions8.375 x 11.375 in. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
