Text in red with black shadowing and are located in the upper third of the object, while a yellow area with the name of a refinery makes up part of the lower third of the object.Dimensions8.5039 x 6.811 in. Inscriptions"MUU" are in red with black shadowing and are located in the upper third of the object, while an yellow area containing the words "MID-WEST REFINERIES. INC." makes up part of the lower third of the object.
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
