DescriptionCollage on yellow rectangular napkin. Napkin is covered with painted pieces of tissue paper and small scraps from a magazine advertisement. Along the lower right corner, there is a large black splotch that is mixed in with splatters of yellow paint. In the middle of the page, there are pieces of white tissue paper outlined with yellow paint. There are two pieces from a magazine, one of which is bright yellow with text printed in red ink, and another smaller piece with flowers on it. Along the left edge of the paper are more splatters of black and blue paint.Dimensions8.875 x 6.25 in. (22.5 x 15.9 cm)
InscriptionsOne of the collaged pieces is from a magazine, and it has text "Sco" printed in red ink.
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
