DescriptionGAR badge made up of three sections: two bronze medals and red satin ribbon. The first portion of the medal is made up of a stylized bar that has year and location. The second section of the medal is round, with a description of the pictured man around the outer band. Within the band is the profile of a bearded man in a suit and tie, and the name of the pictured man. The reverse of the upper medal holds the pin. The reverse of the lower medal has the event information along the outer rim. At the center of the medal is an image of the Wyoming Monument, with the name of the monument on either side.Dimensions1.562 x 4 in. (4 x 10.2 cm)InscriptionsThe top portion of the medal has text "1899 / WILKES-BARRE".
The bottom section of the medal has the inscription "DEPARTMENT COMMANDER / 1898-1899" around the outer band; within the band is the name "W.J. PATTERSON".
The reverse of the lower medal has the inscription "33RD ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT / DEPT. OF PA. G.A.R." along the outer rim.
At the center of the medal is an image of the Wyoming Monument, with the words "WYOMING" "MONUMENT" on either side.
Historical NotesPart of a collection relating to the Pennsylvania Grand Army of the Republic and John Remley who served in the Civil War and was active in the leadership of the GAR. The collection documents the military career of a Civil War soldier from the Western Pennsylvania region.
