DescriptionGAR badge with embossed brass medal and red satin ribbon. Obverse: The top portion of the medal, attached to the ribbon, has event information. The ribbon is embossed with a silver keystone surrounding year. Below the ribbon is a brass ring, to which is attached a brass medallion. The medallion depicts a three-quarter profile portrait of a mustached man wearing a suit and bowtie, and event information around the portrait.
Reverse: The pin and hook are located on the back of the uppermost pice of brass. The back of the medallion has person's name, place, and year surrounding an image of a monument of a man riding a horse.Dimensions1.625 x 3.375 in. The ribbon is embossed with a silver "1901" with the "9" and "0" intertwined.

The back of the medallion reads "MAJ. GEN'L W.S. HANCOCK / GETTYSBURG 1863".
Historical NotesPart of a collection relating to the Pennsylvania Grand Army of the Republic and John Remley who served in the Civil War and was active in the leadership of the GAR. The collection documents the military career of a Civil War soldier from the Western Pennsylvania region.
