DescriptionCollage on magazine clipping with advertisement for oil paint. The front of the piece is predominantly red, black, and white. Across the lower half, there is a red cut out from a magazine. In the right corner, there is tissue with paint, and on the lower left, there is a piece of white tissue with pink paint on it. The upper half of the piece is predominantly black and grey. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
